'Normalize', 'Compressor', and 'EQ' have saved my life when I'm sound editing; Basically, if whatever effect menu your editing program uses has all three of those, it's good to hit your vocal tracks with 'Normalize', then jump into your EQ/Equalizer and fuck around with the treble and bass ends of the curve/sliders (depends on what the interface looks like) until you're happy with it, then it's usually a good idea to last apply a compressor effect. I can't exactly give you hard nitty gritty numbers or what Every Single Word And Slider Means In Detail, but overarchingly, I go 'normalize'-'Equalize'-'Compressor' as my baseline, then continue to fine tune and fuck around with extra shit like amplify/reapplying the same EQ/noise removal/reverb after that.
